In early 2024, Canal Barges & Cranes proudly mobilized our 4,500-ton capacity barge, Rafael E. Arosemena 111, to Guyana as a key asset in the ambitious Gas-to-Energy project along the Demerara River.
This barge, outfitted with BIM walls and ramps for maximum product load capacity, exemplified our commitment to meeting challenging demands and supporting infrastructure development across Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean islands.
Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy project aims to enhance the country’s energy reliability and reduce electricity costs through cleaner, gas-generated power.
This effort requires substantial volumes of material to be transported efficiently, especially sand, which posed a logistical challenge due to the project’s distance and river location.
Our strategic location in Panama enabled rapid mobilization of the Rafael E. Arosemena 111, leveraging the barge’s optimal draft and robust, well-maintained structure to meet the rigorous demands of river-based sand transport.

This project highlights the versatility and rellability of our fleet, making us an ideal partner for projects requiring high-capacity barges in hard-to-reach areas.
As we continue expanding our presence throughout the Americas, we are excited to return to Guyana in the near future and play an active role in the region’s development.
Our location at the heart of the continent positions us as a logistical hub, facilitating fast, cost-effective mobilization of equipment to meet our clients’ unique needs.
Canal Barges & Cranes is dedicated to becoming the preferred choice for barge services across Central and South America, and the Caribbean islands, with a proven track record of excellence in both service and equipment quality.
