Canal Barges & Cranes is proud to have participated in an iconic project at Balboa Anchorage.
The job was to perform a ship-to-ship transfer of 38,000 tons bulk of the entire soybean load from a vessel that got serious structural damage to a second Panamax bulk carrier to allow her to keep her voyage to a China dry dock.
The transfer of the cargo was done via two CB&C large-capacity deck barges with tugs. The 2,500 tons Ana Lucia C and the 3,000 tons Emilia B deck barges were prepared for this task by installing beam walls to contain the cargo to be discharged.
Furthermore, large heavy-duty tarps were fabricated to keep the unaffected soybeans protected from the rain.
Finally, proper fendering was supplied as well as a proper procedure to tie up the barges alongside the vessels. After this was accomplished, an experienced and qualified team of crane operators and stevedores took over the project and accomplished the task against all odds and adverse weather conditions. Canal Barges & Cranes is proud to have participated in this out-of-the-box solution job.
